William D. Abramson
Honorary Board Member

Bill Abramson is a native New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx. Bill earned a BA in psychology from Boston University and an MA in Sports Management from NYU. After several years working as a personal trainer, Bill opened and operated Maple Park Ltd., an enrichment center for parents and children in Rockville Center, Long Island. After selling Maple Park in 1991 Bill worked at the Riverdale YM-YWHA for 4 ½ years as the Program Director of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

In 1996, Bill began work as General Manager of the Field House at Chelsea Piers, and is presently the First Vice President of Chelsea Piers. Since beginning at the Field House, Bill created and oversaw the Human Resources Department for the entire Chelsea Piers complex, and was the Executive Director of Chelsea Piers Summer Camp Programs. He is presently the General Manager of the Sports Center, which has a multi-million dollar budget, and staff of over 250 people.

Bill's commitment to our community is as impressive as his professional credentials. He currently serves as Chairman of Community Board #8 in the Bronx, on the Board of the Riverdale YM-YWHA where he co-chairs the Family and Youth Services Committee and is Vice President of the Board. Bill is also on the Board of Directors for the Riverdale Community Center, Empire State Democratic Initiative, and a past President of the Benjamin Franklin Reformed Democratic Club.

Bill is a recipient of a 200 David Rockefeller Fellowship, which helps develop top private sector leaders and engages them in New York City's public arena. He has been selected Commander For The Day by the Policemans' Association and PENCIL-Principal for a Day twice. In addition, Bill is an Adjunct Professor at NYU.

In addition to his professional credentials, Bill is actively involved in sports and received a Bronz Medal as a member of the 1985 USA Maccabi Rugby team in Israel.
